Blasting Concept have outdone themselves on this new 7" they released. I accidentally leaked a link a few months back, because it's that good and i was that excited. The opening track Hammerbag, is absolutely righteous. Turn that shit up LOUD. It'll start your morning (or afternoon, depending on when you wake up from your hangover/drug sleep) out perfectly. Toilet's Clogged is the most rockin' track on the EP, and really brings it home with Calvin's incessant riffage and whoever the hell the drummer is, just mashin' away on his heads with no mercy. The ending bridge in Toilet's Clogged, will most likely make you want to get smashed and eat pizza while you play too much pinball, and reek of BO. El Camino- do i really need to say anything? Fuck your van, get an El Camino holmes. The closing track (and my personal favorite) Scant Chance, is just straight mind-fucking. I don't really comprehend how Calvin and the boys write such amazing anthems that sound straight out of '78, but are from like 6 months ago. Motherfucker, this song is comparable to The Holy Church of Annihilation's Power of One track; basically, putting their entire sound and every element that makes Blasting Concept, Blasting Concept- into a single track. Scant Chance is 4:12 in length, but you'll most likely listen to it around 4:20 in the afternoon when you're sitting down to take a bong toke. The riffs alone in Scant chance are plain destructable, and would take out thee entire country of Vietnam if Eisenhower would have possessed this 7", that Fred Hammer of AT recorded. This album is the epitome of fucking straight up stoner/skate rock/thrash- Fu Manchu, Molly Hatchet, RKL, Annihilation Time, and Captain Beyond in the form of four washed up assholes out of Santa Barbara, California. To wrap things up in a single sentence about this EP- I've had it for about 5 months now, and I've listened to it over 100 times.. no joke. I'll post a link for download, as soon as you order an EP from them yourself- seriously, it's that fucking good man, I kid you not. I'll keep you posted on upcoming shows, wherever they play- because you do not want to miss it. Check out this Year of the Rat from a house party..

I was in Australia for a month.. sorry for not updating. Hopefully that gave you time to reconsider the post below, and you decided to ruin your life entirely. Anyway, while on my travels, I was stuck with some health food fanatics, lost 20lbs (was asked by a close friend if I was on a 7 day crack binge), hadn't smoked real weed in over a week, and obviously- felt like total shit. I was passed out in the car, listening to No Justice, and sat up to either drink some water or roll the windows up to keep the rain out.. can't really remember. BUT, what I doremember, was seeing a tall big dude in his early 20s wearing a fucking NAILS shirt. Holy shit was I stoked. NO ONE in Australia on the 15 Hours of East Coast I had covered, seemed to dig anything hard.. at all. I was so stoked, to the point where I made myself get outta the car, and literally blurted out"DUDE! FUCKING NAILS!". The dude's name was James, and was there with his friends Casey & Zac. They were going out for a surf.. but we went back and forth about good music for at least a half hour.. (I ramble when Im stoked). Zac told me he was in a band, and in his exact words "Yeah, we suck and cant really play our instruments.." my instant reaction, was pure joy.. something finally that was truly shitty. Im sick of hearing super talented musicians attempt to make shit music. It still sounds good.. its second nature. Their band's called Porno Beach, and theyre fucking rad. I dont think they suck, I think they rule.. total shitty awesomeness.

Sonic's Rendezvous Band was started by Fred Smith of the MC5 back in 1975, featuring members of The Stooges, Up, and The Rationals. They only had enough money to press a 7" during their time, which resulted in numerous live recordings. In '99, when Alive/Total Energy Records released a studio recording of the then-unheard song "Electrophonic Tonic", the song that was to have been the B-side of "City Slang"- A LOT of interest was sparked; Motivating Mack Aborn Rhythmic Arts to release this album. This CD was released in 2000 and contains both the 79' & '99 recorded versions of City Slang, as well as eleven other tracks of epic live material. I'll be posting the "Sweet Nothing" single (which contains a 9:42 live version of City Slang) they released in a couple days, stay tuned..

Death (not the metal band) was a three piece rock n roll/punk rock band from Detroit in 1975. When my roommate showed me this album, the first track instantly reminded me of Fred Sonic's Rendezvous Band, and heavy elements of the MC5. The other tracks on this album are just as good and all set a different pace. A few progressions remind me of Captain Beyond and Sir Lord Baltimore, and its absolutely righteous. Basically, you need this record. All three were brothers- literally and figuratively.. you do the math. Also- It's rumored that Bad Brains got their hands on Deaths one and only single, and based their entire catalog off of it.. I believe it.

Damage Deposit is the newest of the bands that Felix Von Havoc (Thee most hardcore dude alive) has sung for (he also sang in the crusty, hardcore band Destroy! and after that Code 13). That being said, he’s not the only important member. The band is also comprised of Nic Attack (bass), Ben (guitar), Colin (guitar), and Mario (drums), equally talented in their fields, and all from bands like Code 13, Any Last Words, Sweet Jap, Encroach, and Miles Ahead.

This EP is made up of 8 fast, pissed-off hardcore blasts, with lyrical attacks dealing with the destruction of hardcore over the years (“That’s Not Core, Dude”), the politics of dancing (“Ninjas to the Back”), and comic book heroes as street vigilantes (“Daredevil vs. the Punisher”). No one is left alone, as the band goes against the police, consumerism, television, the police, society, jocks, hardcore jocks, and the police. The music is a mess of distorted guitars, backed with Nic’s superb bass playing (it just flies), and Mario’s hyper-intensive drum playing. Felix’s vocals are gritty and spit out at a rapid-fire pace. The breakdowns are especially nice, with the bass and drums pretty much tearing up everything in their path. Thrashy hardcore, if you want to get specific; In the vein of Tear it Up, Infest, and Shark Attack.

I know, I know, I know- not hardcore, punk, thrash, or even metal.. but still- it's Zeppelin.

I picked up this rare copy of a Zeppelin bootleg that was recorded at the LA Forum in '77, and it has thee most epic 'No Quarter' I have ever heard (30:03).
I got into Zeppelin when I was 9. My friends older brother showed us 'The Song Remains the Same' DVD, and pointed out to us Bonhams double-kick in 'Good Times Bad Times', with just a single-kick pedal.. It blew both our minds; At that moment, Led Zeppelin became my favorite rock & roll band of all time, and still is to this day.
I will finish uploading the second LP (which features Keith Moon joining Bonham on 'Out on the Tiles > Moby Dick') when I get around to it, but until then- marinate heavily on this.. it's stunning.

BOLD. I'm 26, so I don't have much to say about BOLD, I just remember what older dudes would tell me at shows; "Bold's overrated; Kids only wear their shirts to shows so they can be the dude wearing the oldest core bands shirt" or "Bold sucked dude, seriously, listen to 'em" - Again, this is when I was going to Throwdown shows in '99, so the resources were beyond retarded, obviously.
After listening to this album, and remembering reading that BOLD formed when they were 14/15 years old.. Shit, you've got to be kidding me- Ahead of its time. Progressive, melodic, and talented. The song "You're the Friend I Don't Need" reminds me heavily of Stay Gold, with a hint of Champion.

The thick, raw sound is augmented by layered samples and circuit bent analog instruments, and the music was recorded on a cassette four track in the band’s warehouse practice space during times of extreme heat and intermittent rain storms. Lyrics deal with Southern Religion and underhanded "punk" business practices. The B side is ten minutes of live audio recorded at Magic City Wholesale during a show with Rational Animals and Vile Intent. Contains several old songs and an Infest cover. The production on this cassette is seriously raw as shit and makes me want to punch holes in everything around me..

"FOF wasn't straight edge... Ben was and Graham was (at first) but me and Jamie were definitely not. we formed in Isla Vista. I was the only one from Oxnard. AT was pretty much the same, forming around my house in IV. I'm attaching the original Live @ KCSB cover (I made a better one later, but can't seem to find the file on my computer at the moment) and "state control" is a cover of DISCHARGE's state violence/state control (i was apparently too lazy to put the whole name).

Chronic Seizure's first full length, released in 2008. Totally different production quality is noticeable right off the bat, and so is the weakening/less aggressive sound. The vocals are now much more controlled and not half as manic as they were on the 'Brainsick EP', thrash has pretty much been abandoned, and is all now pretty average hardcore punk.. kind of reminds me of a weaker version of Cro-Mags. Don't get me wrong, still super epic- just NOTHING compared to the 'Brainsick EP'.. like, not even close.. sounds like two completely different bands.

Terror used to play every single weekend back in the early 2000's, whether it was at Chain or Showcase.. This 7" EP (limited to 500) was recorded on January 16th, 2003 at Showcase Theatre in Corona, CA. I personally was at this show, and good lord was it out of fucking control; Just listen to the stuff Vogel keeps yelling to the crowd before breakdowns/before songs (i.e. - KILL MOTHERFUCKERS!). I love the recording on this EP, it's super raw and sounds like a live show should sound on vinyl- plus, Todd Jones is still with the band. Six songs that run 17 ½ minutes long, sure to ruin your life.

P.S. - My roommate HATES Chris Wrenn (B9), more than anything ever.

Atreyu - Visions EP

Atreyu was a hardcore punk band from Yorba Linda that started playing together around late '97 / early '98. I was personal friends with most of the band and saw them play quite a bit before they got signed and released Bullshit and Butterfly Shits (Brandon was in one of the most epic YLHC bands ever at the time ('00), called Lonely Road Diary, then later started a straight up rock band called Hideki with some other good friends of mine..) This is their first EP they released in '99, and it has some serious gemicons; It reminds you that Atreyu was actually good at one point. The opening track 'As the Line Between Machinery and Humanity Fades' is fast and aggressive with some seriously brutal vocals. 'Love is Illness' is a bit more progressive, but still fast and heavy. But to be perfectly honest, I think 'Dinosaurs became Extinct (And You Are A Fossil)' is the shining gemsicle of this album.. growling vocals, fast as shit, and heavy breakdowns- a perfect blend.

Now, a solid 10 years later- you can find Atreyu blowing it, selling out, and sounding like absolute shit.. right up there with Fred Durst and friends. This album and 'Fractures in the Facade of Your Porcelain Beauty' are the only two Atreyu albums worth owning.. If you disagree, I have no idea why you're even on this blog- seriously.

Annihilation Time - Full Lengths

Annihilation Time.. Most underrated band of all time..? I personally think so. Seamlessly blending elements of Thin Lizzy, Black Flag, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and RKL- Ojai's Annihilation Time will be sure to knock you the fuck out, every single time. 'This One's for you God' features hardcore/punk photographer Fred Hamer on vocals, a bit more raw and less produced- but still epic'ly hard. When I put 'Annihilation Time II' in my cars CD player in 2007, I honestly did not take it out once until 2008, not a single time.. it's that good. Jimmy came to vocals, and in my opinion- completed the band. His vocals perfectly suit Grahams guitar progressions and style, kinda like Bon Scott did with Angus in early ACDC recordings. I honestly would consider AT II to be an instant classic, and the perfect album- hands down. 'Annihilation Time III' is a bit more rock and roll versus punk, compared to AT II. Still an epic album and very well rounded.. I'd compare it to when Slayer followed up 'Reign in Blood' with 'South of Heaven'; Still a damn good album (and my personal favorite Slayer album), just totally different to what they were doing before. The track 'Just Guzzlin' off AT III will be sure to get you going no matter what you're up to.
All in all, if you like anything resembling rock and roll, punk rock, minor elements of hardcore, and pure stoked upon energy.. then this is the band you have been looking for your entire life- I swear to God.

Shred Savage, sounds like Annihilation Time with Fred Hammer on vocals right when 'Somebody's In My Driveway' hits- but not quite as gnarly...and with more Adolescent-esque progressions- really badass solos as well (2:20-2:50 on Dr. Love in Her Bones is a face melter). Also a really solid drug-rock feel.
